Second we need another "impact" down lineman.

Agreed. I think the Hawks will look for a way to deal Britt. He is the most overrated player on this team and he is one of the worst centers in the NFL. He is an average to below average blocker, makes huge bonehead mistakes and is absolutely the worst blocking assignment caller in the league. Dallas knew this and took advantage of it. Most of our O line problems were unblocked D linemen coming in, not missed blocks. Many or most were right up the middle. I don't see any team wanting him, so maybe he can be a backup guard or RT.

Because Wilson and the Hawk receivers are better at 25 yard passes than they are 3 yard passes.

That probably needs to be addressed. Being better at a low percentage play than you are at a high percentage play is stupid! If that is the case, why does Pete always harp about running the ball so they can get into 3rd and manageable? We should have been the best offense in football last year because we were in 3rd and 15 about every other drive? If we are so good at those types of plays why do we run dump off plays on 3rd and long?

LOL... I'm scratching my head too. Remember the Panther game.... the 4th down hail Mary. No no no... yes, yes, YES! Living dangerously on low percentage throws.

What we need is a Wes Welker type option receiver. The Patriots were able to figure out his game and transfer it to other players like Julian Edelman and Danny Amondola. All the credit is given to Brady, but it's the option receiver that's extended his career. The Cowboys have a good option receiver in Cole Beasley. These guys move the sticks because they decide where the ball will be thrown vs the QB anticipating the break and throwing in rhythm. The closest we've had to this type of receiver was Golden Tate. None of our regular receivers are good at getting open quickly it seems.

Oh man, that was a freaking dime....and a few weeks later against the 49ers we did the same thing to McKissic, only to have it called back by penalty. I understand Russ throws a great deep ball, but it is baffling how that seems to be all we want to run.

But, isn't that Doug Baldwin? We had Doug Baldwin and Jimmy Graham, we should have been very good in the short to intermediate, and we never seem to be even average.

Tate is more Running Back than receiver. I really think Doug should be a better possession receiver than Golden, but Tate is better at gaining yards after the catch.

Maybe it is in fact a limitation with our weapons. I remember Jake Heeps saying that David Moore was only good at running one route, the fade. Brown isn't really good at running any routes and with Baldwin injured we weren't left with much besides Lockett. If teams took away T Lock I guess we would struggle. But, I just don't buy that it is all talent. I think for many years, this one included, the scheme has been lacking.

Doug has a bit of a short game but he's not an option receiver. Again, the option receiver dictates where the ball is going to be thrown, not the QB. Baldwin is more like Bobby Engram only not as good or consistent at getting open on third downs.

Hawks live off of slow developing wheel routes. They like to take a receiver on one side, have them run a shallow cross and then break down field when they have one-on-one coverage... usually against a safety or linebacker ideally. In this way, we haven't really change much from Bevell. Schotty stepped in and incorporated many of the passes that Wilson and his receivers were already adept at doing.

Tyler Lockett is a guy who could develop into an option receiver. But that's not been his role with the Hawks. He's more like a traditional #1 even though he's not the ideal size. He's a big threat receiver vs the go-to guy on 3rd and 5.

Seems that all the QBs killing it out there have a top quality TE to go to like Ertz, Travis Kelce, Gronk. That's why we brought in Jimmy, but Pete and John mistakenly thought he would be a good fit with a run first team. Jimmy has always been an over-sized wide receiver. He's a finesse guy... a basketball player that simply wasn't suited for smash mouth ball. Dissly is a guy that could be our answer to attacking the seems and catching TDs in the red zone. Let's hope that it was more than a flash with him and that he can stay healthy.
