Mariners signed INF/OF Dustin Ackley to a minor league contract.
Seattle selected Ackley with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2009 MLB Draft and he played the first four-and-a-half years of his MLB career in a Mariners uniform, so this will be a homecoming of sorts for the 30-year-old utilityman. He hasn't appeared in a game at the big league level since 2016, spending the last two years with the Triple-A affiliate of the Angels. Jan 9 - 5:18 PM

One of the biggest conundrums in MLB history.
The best hitter in college BB can't perform successfully in pro ball.
I heard the M's messed with his mechanics?

On a related note, it should be interesting to see if TB can resurrect Zunino.

Ackley has a higher Career bWAR and OPS+ than Mike Zunino in the same amount of years in the bigs.

I think he just lost the mental battle, especially after he saw his bank balance clear a certain dollar figure.
Some players deal with the grind and the pressure like they thrive on it and I'll bet Ackley is more the opposite.
If any player has the ability to relaunch his career this late in life it could be him. He just looked too damn good when he first came up, to believe what happened to him.
