Man, debating Geoffy boy about the arena saga is like talking to a brick wall but we already knew that.

if Geof is saying Hansen needs a partner then I agree, he needs to come up with another move. Not sure what Aaron is arguing, the fact is the thing is getting away from Hansen, if he wants to pull his arena out of the fire he has to double down with another big move, which would be bringing in another investor, RW was nice but that didn't take the place of Balmer.

see Stone has an article out about it, I agree with Stone
There had been strong indications that the council is lined up to approve the MOU. That would pave the way for OVG in 2018 to begin construction of a two-year, $600 million renovation they plan to finish by October 2020.

Would the departure of a mayor hellbent on cementing his legacy as the one who got the arena built change any council votes? It doesn’t seem likely, considering that Murray already was a lame duck that had suffered severe political wounds in the past few months.

But turmoil at City Hall is Hansen’s friend. If the MOU vote is somehow delayed while the political fallout of Murray’s departure is sorted out, it could buy him time to forge a true game-changer. It seems to me that would have to come in the form of either the revelation of a deep-pocketed investor — the so-called “whale” that departed when Steve Ballmer bought the Clippers — or a team that’s willing to commit to the Sodo site.

I am not sure what is meant by a team, the NBA has already said its not doing anything until Seattle gets its Arena issues sorted out, they are not going to suddenly award Hansen a team. You guys can keep complaining about the process all you want but it is what it is, Hansen needs to really make a splash if he is going to get anywhere, another deep pocketed partner might do it.

seems to think Hansen needs more money too, he doesn't see Hansen as the guy that would buy the team in the first place which makes sense.
Hansen has his own problems. He doesn’t have a team to activate the sequence in his MOU that could vacate Occidental Avenue South and begin construction. And until he gets that, he likely won’t get a financial partner to be the majority owner of the team (BTW, the NBA Houston Rockets were sold last week to a local buyer for $2.2 billion, or $200 million more than Hansen’s old partner, Steve Ballmer, paid for the Los Angeles Clippers. The price of entry grows steeper).

2019 NCAA regionals are off.

The project’s completion date assumes construction beginning in October 2018, preventing KeyArena from hosting the opening rounds of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament in March 2019. The city and OVG plan to contact the NCAA and the acting host, the University of Washington, to move the tournament and stage an ensuing edition later in a renovated facility.

Hilarious that they publish the MOU and then plan on contacting the NCAA about a little change of plans. I am sure the NCAA will be pleased as punch.
