Is your mom a legal immigrant?

If so, what does your mom think of illegal immigration?

I'm not exactly sure how it worked out. Grandpa was a Nazi soldier... entered WWII late stages and was captured immediately and taken to the USA and apparently thought USA was great. When he returned to Germany he grabbed his wife and daugher (my Mom 3 years old) and they immigrated to Chicago, Illinois. He ended up farily wealthy and lived his final years in an upscale condo in Willowbrook Terrace suburb of Chicago. Somewhat of an American Dream I suppose. Ah, the good old days before they killed the gold standard and the American Dream.

As for my Mom, she is actually pretty smart and in Mensa, but she doesn't really dig deep into what goes on in our system. She definitely feels like it's unfair. We live in Texas, which sometimes feels like northern Mexico and we both have spanish speaking lawn crews and we don't check their immigration status. I wouldn't say that my Mom supports illegal immigration, but she's a raging Democrat and votes straight blue every time. She really doesn't like Trump. She seems to believe a little stronger than me that voting in Democrats will actually make a difference, but we do share a common disdain for the hogwash that is right-wing rhetoric. She was in love with Beto O'Rourke.

Now that's really interesting. What did your grandpa have to say about socialism? Did he warn you about the dangers? Was that the reason he left Germany?

Well, for both him and my Grandmother, the rest of their family did not leave Germany. It was just those 2. So, maybe they were just adventurous. My Grandpa always rooted for the German soccer team. My Grandpa actually passed away a long time ago. My Grandma is still alive and she just spent 3 months in Germany visiting her sister. So for the most part, all I ever got from them was some amount of German pride, but nothing ridiculous. Also, they both learned to speak perfect English. But, when the phone rings and your Mom picks it up and starts speaking fluent German, as a kid it does have an impact I guess. Versus your comment that nobody even knows an immigrant. My Mom speaks fluent German and was born in Germany.

I mean, seriously, what is the nationalistic mumbo jumbo you cooked up here?

HawkBowler wrote:A nation of immigrants would be full of people that weren't born in the same country. You could call the people in the UK a nation of immigrants because there ancestors came to the island at some point. You could call Native Americans immigrants because their ancestors crossed the Alaskan land bridge 10,000 years ago.

Most Americans are born here and they grow up with other people who were born here. Most Americans don't even know any immigrants.

We are a nation of heritage. Our ancestors built this country. Our white, brown and black ancestors built this country. It wasn't pioneered and built by people from the third world, which makes up 75% of our new immigrants today. The global establishment elite is trying to turn us into an ACTUAL nation of immigrants.

Is there a point buried in that trash? "Most Americans don't know any immigrants" What about all the Americans living in places like me... Houston Texas or what about New York City or Los Angeles or Chicago???? Do we not count? And, I bet every immigrant knows some immigrants... Anyway, I'm done.... One entire side of my family is immigrants, and I do not feel threatened in the least by Open Borders. Let them in I say!!!! If you are worried about an immigrant... I say... get your head out of your ass... immigration is a BS issue that goes along with the poison of nationalism. There is no US vs. Them when it comes to humanity... There's only us. I'm fine with personal property laws... But immigration should be free.

What Sea said, "Immigration should be free" illustrates just why one party can't have it all their way all the time. Compromise brings sober and just laws.

Also on personal anecdotes I dated a refugee of El Salvador for 3 years. I assume she will stay in the USA for life, but I know that her Mom and her Mom's husband who are also both immigrants are both planning on retiring in El Salvador. They all speak fluent English. They are all "legal" because there was a civil war in El Salvador. Combined they are pulling in over $200k... not bad for some immigrants. I also knew a guy who was definitely not legal and worked as a chef in an upscale restaurant and he would go back to Mexico for holidays... somehow he he was not worried about getting home and back. He also was bilingual and spoke fluent English. Anyway... just adding more to the list of immigrants I have known personally. Not to mention the celebrity immigrants like Felix Hernandez who also speaks English pretty well. I don't see what all the negative fuss is about like we're going to be "invaded"...

Also, this concept that we need a big military to promote peace is backwards. Peace does not come from a military, peace comes from humanity reaching out to humanity. That's the only way.. Maybe that's not what your silly bible says, but we have to build bridges not WALLS or there will be no hope for peace ever. There is no Us vs. Them... there is only Us... and we don't need walls telling us where we can go or central banks stealing half our paychecks to fund wars for the elite.

For every $200,000 example of prosperous immigrants you can furnish, I can show you a million Welfare Cases, Career Criminals and loyal government dependent Democrats for life. The standard of living in the Los Angeles Barrios would be no better than Mexico if not for our much more liberal welfare system and emergency services. At any rate, it's hardly distinguishable from Mexico. I'd love to see you become a Landlord there you ignorant, naive fool.

We also have welfare cases that are home grown. This idea that a baby born on US soil is inherently more worthy than a baby born on Mexican or Canadian soil is pretty silly to me. Just let the free market do it's thing, right? I think the right-wing free-market guy gets tripped up by immigration... suddenly we forgo the free market system, because of nationalism... it's a common thing, just not one that I agree with...
